Geert
Sanders studied social and organizational psychology at
the Catholic University of Nijmegen and the University of
Groningen, respectively. He completed his studies in 1969
cum laude.
From
1969 to 1997 Geert Sanders researched (and occasionally
acted as consultant on) various aspects of the psychology
of life careers, organizational behavior and
organizational learning.
Since
1997 these themes have come into daily use in his capacity
as director of the Department of Development and Fund
Raising. Geert Sanders has learned from the interaction of
practice and theory, that “theories of organizational
culture and leadership aren’t that bad at all.”
These
are the phases of his career as a field researcher:
-
Large-scale,
comparative research into the lives of homosexual and heterosexual Dutch boys
and girls (1969-1977) under Prof. H.A. Hutte; doctorate earned in 1977;
-
Research into innovation of secondary education via “value clarification”
programs (1977-1984);
-
Research into diagnosing corporate culture in some twenty organizations in
Denmark and the Netherlands, together with Geert Hofstede (1984-1988);
-
Research
on (fundamental) cultural changes (1988-1992);
-
Research
on intercultural cooperation and technology transfer between organizations in
different countries,
inter alia
together with Sebastian Dworatschek (1992-1997);
-
Research
into corporate cultural aspects of fund raising (since 1997);
-
Research
into the creation and management of knowledge within the “master-apprentice”
model (since 2004).
His
work as director of Development and Fund
Raising of the
Ubbo Emmius Fonds
can be divided into two
phases:
-
Transfer of principles and practices of fund raising to Ubbo Emmius
Fund
staff (the Dutch context) by the American/English consultancy
bureau Brakeley;
- Shape
fundraising to fit Dutch culture; .
As
university teacher and consultant, Geert Sanders is or has been
active in all of these areas of expertise.
He
uses the process consultation approach in his consultancy work: together
with the client he finds the central questions and based on a series of critical
questions, he supports the clients in the independent discovery of their
solutions. He has assisted a variety of (international) profit and non-profit
organizations.
He has
(co-)supervised ten (completed dissertations) and
continues to act as supervisor/mentor to several current
PhD projects.
See list:
Dissertations
In
addition to his positions at the University of Groningen,
between 1994 and 2001 he was guest professor for
Intercultural Business Cooperation at the University of
Bremen in the Institute for Project Management and
innovation (IPMI). At that time he contributed to a number
of courses and research projects lead by Prof. Sebastian
Dworatschek dealing with project management.
He
also contributes as speaker and workshop leader to
De Baak Executive Development Center, Focus Conferences,
the TSM Business School of the Technical University at
Twente, the Dutch Royal Military Academy at Breda,
Brakeley Fund Raising and Management Consultants, the
Haus der Technik in Essen, the University of Bremen,
the Teeuwen Group, and the training institute of the KMBV.
He is

of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education),
